What kind of wall board should I use for a cathedral ceiling with rafters 24″ o.c. if I intend to to use a skim coat of plaster? The hard coat contractors I’ve been in contact with seem to believe sagging is inevitable. I’m considering running furring stips horizontally 16″ o.c. but I would rather avoid it if I can. I would much rather find a board suitable for plaster and 24″ o.c. rafters. Any suggestions?

If your going to skim plaster it, then blueboard is ideal..but not sure of the sagging factor. The strongest drywall board is 5/8" Firecode "C" - special order, priced higher, just get a extra razor knife blades. Why do you want to skim coat it?
