Hardi on ICFs – Drainage plane needed?
I’m getting conflicting advice on installing Hardi on ICFs. Hardiplank will be 11″ wide, run vertically 12″ OC, attached one side, with a 2″ Hardi batten covering and retaining each joint. ICFS have steel attachment strips 12″ OC. so I don’t NEED furring, but some advice was to do it anyway. If I use it, the furring would consequently be horizontal
These are 9′ and 10′ high walls, slab on grade, 3′ (hipped) eave on all sides. Detached garage and in-law suite. Simple rectangles. No real wind here, maybe 1/2″ snow a year (BGW).
Hate to hide wood furring between concrete and styrofoam – just seems wrong, somehow. Could use hat channel, I suppose, but I’d like to avoid the expense if possible.
Anyone have strong opinions or knowledge of this?

I think your app is where the combination wrap/ventilation is a great asset. There was an article in FHB covering all sorts of house wraps... don't remember which right now.

Humm!
Interesting - looks like it would be one heck of a lot quicker than furring.
