Just when I have really fallen into a groove with this stuff, I missed my hammer hanger and my hammer fell, bounced off the step ladder a few rungs down and took a small piece off the bottom edge of plank. It really is a small piece and wouldn’t be vey noticeable; but I want to know how to treat the spot cosmetically and to prevent future problems with water, etc.

Try an exterior epoxy made for reconstructing areas of rotted wood.
Just prime and paint it to match. I.e., treat it just like an end cut.
