I’ve got a client that wants to replace her masonite siding with cement board on her carport. The siding is up in the gable and there is no sheathing behind the studs (16″ o.c.). I’m sure that the manufacturer would say “no”, but does anyone know if the cement board would be rigid enough to place without sheathing?

Go to the hardie site and read the instructions
They show it installed over a vapor barrier just like traditional siding, as one of the options.
