We’re installing Hardi Cedarmill 6 1/4″ lap siding right now. I bought a pair of siding spacers that supposedly would make it much easier.
Problem: The siding is not very uniform is width, varying as much as 1/4″. Thus, the spacer tool is all but worthless.
The Hardi trim that I purchased is also a little bit of a problem: The end of each 10’er curves off to one side for the last four inches or so which is creating a lot of extra cutting and waste.
Is this typical?
Something is what it does.

Oh - oh... Seconds..... and poor storage / warehousing on the trim....
Here fishy fishy....
Nope, not really typical. Sounds like it was left outside or in the least not stored properly. One of the things I always love about Hardi is the consistency. Talk to your lumberyard about taking it back.
I'm not sure what those spacers are, but if they're anything like the S-shaped dealies I used when I resided with Masonite, they're really just to hold the "wild" end while you get the other end started. You still have to line up the siding to chalk line marks if you want it to be straight and evenly spaced.
