Hardie Board installation question – end caps for fascia boards?

A contractor just completed replacing my exterior walls with Hardie Board. For the most part, it looks good. I have one question regarding the ends of the fascia boards. Hardie trim boards are scalloped with groves on one side. The contractor told me it is to make the boards lighter. However, at the end of each fascia board, this grooved edge shows (see photos attached). The installers caulked the openings, but I don’t like the look. I’ve checked the Hardie website including many of their installation videos and they don’t address this and don’t show the end of any trim boards. Isn’t there supposed to be an end cap or something that fills in or hides these grooves?

Personally I would have mitered it and put a return piece that terminates into the siding on the right.
I agree
Yes, returns!
Makes the board lighter?
