Greetings 961340,
This post, in response to your question, will bump the thread through the 'recent discussion' listing again.
Perhaps it will catch someone's attention that can help you with advice.
Cheers

You mean like this.. see pic.
Instead of shingles I bent a 1 piece aluminum roof panel. The back edge is bent so that it comes up the rake about 3~4 inches. I ran the soffit down under it to 1 inch from the roof.
If you can flash or step flash your shingles, it would have the same effect.

Your posted picture looks clean and neat. My problem is the return is a small hip roof also called a greek return. It has already been shingled with architectual shingles and capped off with the thick ridge/hip shingle. I'm not sure I'm explaining it well. Maybe I should remember my wifes camera and take a picture. Thanks
Is your hip like the left side or the right side? I think your talking right side.

right side
We terminate our hardie soffits about 3/4" above the shingled roofs. The roofers installs flashings to close the gap and keep the birds and the bees out. The gap allows the end grain of the soffit materials to dry out. This eliminates the possibility of mildew forming like it would if the soffit touched the shingles and never dried out.
