What’s up,
I am installing 5/8 T111 onto a 16X24′ frame. Members are 2X4 24″ OC
I am using 8d spiral shank galvi nails. I was told / read that hardware should be installed in the grooves, which makes sense because they line up with the wall studs. (milling is 8″ OC) Since I do not have the luxury of a nail gun I can’t sink the nails to the bottom of the grooves.
I started nailing on each side of the grooves, toenailing into the studs.
Q: 1. How many nails are “standard” for installation. I put about 11 along the studs.
2. Would it be better to Screw the T111 iin the grooves into the studs?
Thanks!

Hh88,
I have screwed T-111 [did that sound right?], but spiral or ring shank are fine. My goal would be every 8", but I'm sure there is a spec on the internet that would take the guesswork out of it.
Good Luck,
Mark
I ran into this same problem last weekend with T1-11, but since the grooves lined up with the studs I just used nails and then followed up with a nail set to seat them into the grooves. I spaced about 12" on center, but I think I doubled up on top and bottom to be sure.

Nail in the grooves, if you want. Go the big box to the siding department, they have a nail set for soffit work, etc. It's a sliding arrangement that you fit over the head, then whack the pin, which sets the nail.
Otherwise, I've just nail thru the siding into studs using SS ring shanks.
