Last week we lost power due to the ice storm here in Virginia. This past summer my neigbors had their hardwood floors refinished. During the power outage they had no backup heat. The floor apparently contracted and the finish, supposedly a high quality polyurethane, begain to crack at the flooring joints with a loud pop. Now they need to have the floor redone. Could this have been prevented? Is there an optimum time of year to refinish a wood floor? Thanks for your help.
