I’m installing new 3/4” hardwood floors on the 2nd story of my split level house. Where the floors meet the stairway (see picture) I am installing landing tread similar to the other attached picture.
The lumber yard didn’t have any landing tread with the groove cut in. They said they never carry it. I would think that tying the floor into the landing tread via tongue and groove would make for a more solid installation.
My question is, should I take a router and install a groove in the landing tread for the tongue of my hardwood floors to tie in? Or just butt the floor to the landing tread and call it a day?
Thanks in advance!

How are you attaching the floor and how are you attaching the bullnose? My concern would expansion and contraction. If you glue down the bullnose and then butt the flooring directly up to it (with or without a groove) will this create an issue? The direction in which you nail the floor will have an impact on which way the floor moves. Now if you gluing down the entire floor I don't think it would be an issue. Use your router or table saw to cut a grove to receive the tongue and your good to go.
Thanks for the reply. I was going to nail down the hardwood and also the bullnose.
