Hello,
I’ve laid quite a few HW floors in my time but mostly in new installations for new homes. I got spoiled doing this. I am faced with somewhat of a dilema now for my own home. I have an area about 10X13 that is Linoleum. I’d like to put a HW floor down because I can’t stand the linoleum anymore. My question(s) is has anyone ever had experience putting a HW floor over linoleum? Should I tear up the linoluem to get down to the subfloor and put new luan down? If I go over the linoleum, do I need to put tar or rosin paper down? If I don’t put the paper down is the floor more susceptible to squeeks? Any thoughts to this task would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Fred

Go for it. If you staple the floor good, you won't have to worry about squeaking. Not to mention that if you pull it up, you have all the glue that will be stuck to the subfloor, and that will need to be sanded.
C'mon guys. Any takers?
I worked for a floor layer for a long time, and as long as the lino is down solid don't see why u would have to tear it up... we've laid lino over lino... and over tile,,, also the pub I worked in laid the hardwood floor over everything ,, carpet ,, dance floor , the works... probably even the cigerette butts... LOL... (it was that kind of place)
