hardwood plywood online suppliers?

Craigabooey | Posted in General Discussion on January 8, 2007 08:59am

I’m building an entertainment center to house the new plasma tv the wife got me for Christmas and I want to build it with cherry veneer plywood. The place near me has it for like $115 per 4x8x3/4″ sheet. There’s gotta be some cheaper sources. Anybody?    For your info I live on Long Island, New York.

                                             Thanks

                                                     Craig

One of the best plywood sources around is also on the island, though I suspect that might be where you got your price from.

edit: You might try Rosensweigs in the Bronx.

I've been to the Roberts Plywood warehouse several times. They're not particularly cheap but hey stock an enormous amt of wood and their prices are so-so, so........I'd use them again for sure.
Plus its less than a half hour or so from here.
Actually what I bought from them a wayssssssssss back was cherry plywood...lol.
One thing important about cherry pw is to use a conditioner on it first before you stain. It gets seriously blotchy other wise.

I've had good luck with Adriatic--it's a millwork place, but they sell specialty ply as well.

If you buy online keep in mind you'll probably end up paying frieght.

The price you quoted is not out of line with what I recently paid for 3/4 cherry ply in kansas city...

I've been able to get it for as low as $99 per so the $115 doesnt seam all that bad.

I thought everything was more in the greater New York area so your not way out there with that price.

Like CAG said, if you can find it cheaper on line or have to order your probably going to pay the diff in shiping.

this is a ways from you but there is a guy over in Inman,ks [north of hutch ]that i have bought 1/4 sawn oak and ply from,he handles a lot of hard to find stuff.  schmucker lumber  620-489-6624. larryhand me the chainsaw, i need to trim the casing just a hair.

I'll file it away, there are two great lumber yards in KC that have enormous selection if you're ever looking for something you can't find local...

I think it's about $120 or so here in Ct - you're price is about right.

I paid $115 cherry plywood last week here in DC.  It's better than paying $7.71/board ft for the solid stuff, at least for an entertainment center.
