He everyone, New be here: I’ve got a refinishing job for a hardwood floor but the person only wants to “sand a little bit” and then finish it. She insists on not stripping the old finish and starting over. Any idea on how to do this? Or, what? Have no details on what the old finish is yet. Am going to check it out tho. CAN it be done or do I have to do the entire strip job? Thanks: bradlee.

We have done this quite alot. You start by washing the floor with TSP this will remove any wax that is present and then sand with a square pad sander starting with 60 grit then 80 grit don't go to deep all you want to do is scuff the hard finish then 2 coats of poly let second coat dry 12 hrs. sand with a scuff pad, vac&tac apply 1 more coat and go collect your money we charge about 3 bucks a sq.

Referred to around here as "screening" a floor. It's more common on laminated wood flooring (ply-type products) with a thin show-layer.
