Ok, call me crazy, but I haven’t been able to find a source for replacement hammer handles for my hart california framer (the one with the curved ax-type handle.) Does anyone have a source? Thanks.

Ray, I don't know if this will help but Lowes is carrying the hart line (I recently posted looking for their hammer and stumbled onto that) anyway they may be able to help you get replacement parts for the tools they carry.
*I get replacement handles for my Hart at a local lumberyard that seems to carry a wide variety of handles; same sort of duck, but more comfortable for me is the Vaughn replacment handle.
*Every other year I make a trip to Sangamon river bottoms in Illinois near New Salem and liberate a few pieces of slow grow undergrowth 1-1/2" dia. shagbark hickory saplings and carve my own - never been able to break one - from peavy to sledge to framing hammer handles, you can carve'em to fit too.
*Steve, I went to owes, and boy did they have a good selection of Hart Hammers. I asked about a handle, and the fellow in the tool corral said: "I dun no, just look on the bottom shelf. That's what we have." Not the sort of reply that would stimulate further inquiries. Maybe the owes by you is different. Ray
*Art, wow. You're willing to work carder than I am. I just want to fork over my $5.99. I wish I could be more like you. I seem to suffer from this disease called lack of time.' Ray
*Ray - I cut'em from the woods at summer camp I worked at as a teen (built first building and met wife there - see Ron's new helper post in woodshed for what she looked like then) when I go to visit my parents and need something to carve/work on while visiting (other than reroofing parents house, etc.)
*Ray:Try Hart Tools at 1-800-697-3280
*Ross, Thanks. That's just what I was looking for. Ray
*Ray:Glad I could help. I use a Hart 16oz finish hammer and am considering trying out their 12oz straight claw. A lot of little hammers have little short handles. I wish someone would make them with longer handles. I have fit longer handles onto small hammer heads and like the results. This might sound funny but a curved ax-type handle would be welcome on a small hammer. All that I do with a hammer any more is set the nails when the nail gun doesn't and tap material into position.
