I’ve lost my old Hart finish hammer and now that I need a new one, I can’t find them anywhere. I assume they are out of business but does anybody know? The hammer I had was about 16 ounce, straight claw, polished head. Does anyone know who makes similar hammers? Thanks- Dennis H.

Dennis- I remember reading in one of these recent threads about the guy who developed the original Hart- he went out on his own and has started a new company. I think even the man himself took part in the dicussion. That discussion also talks about the current status of Hart hammers. Do a search here and you'll probably find it- or maybe someone with more brain cells left can remember more specifics. Duh.
*Here, in DC, Lowes has them sometimes and Woodcraft always does, all shapes and sizes.
*Dennis go to (Stiletto.com) (Douglastool.com) and (Deadontools.co) they will have what you want.Bob
*Douglas Tool Inc. will have their new 18 ounce hammers available online very soon! Suggested retail is $56.99 - worth every penny. They come with a 14" hickory handle and available with smooth or their patented inveted traction striking face. They are also avialable in select hardware stores and lumber yards throughout the U.S.
*That's funny. Just today i ran across one of our framers in the shop. He said to me "look at this" he was holding a framing hammer with a broken off claw. I asked him what he did to that poor hammer and he said "I was pulling a nail out" I asked him if he had bought the hammer at wal-mart and he showed me the label. It was a Hart, which he had purchased the previous day. Go figure.
