Copied this from Knots. I talked to amazon and they said that the third party seller either had to honor the priice or inform me and let me cancel the order. Amazon holds my cc number therefore the seller can’t charge my card to make up for a discrepancy. I ordered two kits.

I wonder if this item is mispriced.

Oh if anyone has experience with this router can you tell me if the base will go in a 690 base? It would be nice if I didn't have to redrill my plate in my table.

Yeah, but at what cost to your karma? You KNOW its a screwup ( ok, maybe not 100%, but if it seems too good..blah, blah, blah..) and yet you jump on it..hmmmm..paybacks can be hell.

I called the girl at amazon. If there is a major screw up I was told that the original seller which is not amazon either has to inform me that there was a screw up and give me the opt to cancel the order or honor the price. If the price is not 8.whatever, I will cancel the order. If they honor it they honor it. If it is there screw up they should inform amazon.

If the seller tells me that the kits are 189.00 a peice I will say thank you but cancel the order.

I just wanted to check with amazon and see if the seller could charge my card whatever they wanted. They can't do that. ( I didn't realize that outside vendors on amazon don't have access to my cc info.) I just wanted to make sure I was protected.

After all an outfit called damlow prices is doing the selling i mean, comeon...

Most sellers have clauses that say they do not have to honor these "mistake" prices and can cancel the order at their own free will.

  4. smllr | Mar 14, 2009 06:41pm | #9

I've ordered one too. The Amazon site says that 9 are in stock as I write. I wonder how often the inventory count is updated. With the ordering frenzy that has been set off, I'm curious how how many of us will actually receive our orders even if they honor the low price.

Listen, I am just relaying info started at knots. As for the contract clause, the girl at amazon said that if there was a problem the seller had the right to cancel my orders and my card wouldn't be charged.  Or that I would be informed that there was a price descrepancy, and I could cancel my own order meaning that the item would be regular price and if I wanted three at the regular price than so be it.

But how is a person to know in this situation that it is not a legitimate deal. The item in question could be discontinued tomorrow, and the seller is just liquidating stock for some reason. How do I know that the seller doesn't have anything in the items to start with.

I am not out cutthroat to capitalize on someone elses mistake, I thought I made that abundantly clear that if the router is eight bucks I will buy it if the router is one hundred and eighty just let me know that there has been a mistake or cancel the order.

However  that is kind of the responsibility of the seller to see that the item is put on amazon at the correct price. Back to a little problem I have in todays society with people taking responsibility for their actions. If I am the seller and I have an employee post this item for sale than I think I might want tto check it out after the fact just to make sure that there was no screwup, or do it myself. If it does get screwed up and a conscientious employee says hey boss, I screwed up and here is what happened I say boy you sure did john, but I really appreciate you coming to me and telling me. Now we can fix it. I wouldnt be the same if the employee had a 'whatever' attitude.

      #### happens in life and business. How many of you all have been in a similar situ. I.e. 4pm a conscientious helper is working hard to trim out a room, cuts the last peice of base wrong- doesn't have enough to finish 'cause you figured it real tight, he didn't figure it you did. He cut it wrong but you figured it now what, does he pay for a new peice? Do you pay for it? Do you go get it? Does he go get it, or do you say well Tim it has been a busy day, forget it, well get it tomorrow. Do you take advantage of him and make him replace the material? Do you chew him out and make him work late, How is his atttitude?

Point I am trying to make is we all have opportunities rightly or not where a sitiuation lends itself to a benefit for someone . I have passed up on many of these deals, and also pointed out similar situations in Lowes and HD. places that I shop regularly. I am not out screwing people, I WANT TO MAKE THAT CLEAR. I was just passing on info about a deal who is to say the price isn't legit. Well see.

--Update, after verifying the price change on amazon I cancelled my order for the three (3) router kits.--

Yeah....probably screwed myself! Damb conscience! Don't feel good about it, kind of feel like an idiot should have just let it ride.

We'll see, I sent the seller an email thru amazon telling them to cancel the order as there was obviously an error in pricing. I haven't heard from the seller so... If I don't hear anything and the routers show up I am keepin' 'em.

Like I said this happens all the time to me, I haven't had any good karma from doing the right thing yet. I was in home depot about a year ago and had been wanting an ideal volt tester with shaker and non contact voltage test, about 80 bucks. I couldn't afford it but I noticed that there were four of them FOUR OF THEM on a peg hanging in the electrical department and the bin label or price- 12.99 twelve dollars and 99 cents. I was PO'd ecause I have worked retail and know that mistakes like that are avoidable I went and got the manager and made him aware of it. I told him I just saved him a bunch and I barely got a thanks and I shop in there all the time.

Oh well one of these days maybe I will get the good luck.

see..you already have misconstreued EXPECTING good karma for your effort..it don't work that way.

You do good, you get whacked, then ya feel good knowing that the whack, was deserverd, for something ya did that whacked someone else that did the same thing as you, but whacked less to those who needed whacking more than you did by whacking the original whacker.

Just whack off the esay ones and the payback is less whackable when yer done with the whacks and get down to real business as an honest person that sees an omission and can pass it up, because someday, some way, it will bite you in the butt.

And never say..."I'd give my left one for a _______" cuz just maybe, some day, some time, some where..you'll have your "left one" and thats all, to trade, for the rest that you want to keep.

Most of the Amazon "partners/merchants" are not shy about cancelling an error.  A while back I stumbled on some of the "70% or more" specials from Poulsteins (I believe).  Just kept finding neat stuff for next to nothing.  They must have had an employee on crack or very disgruntled.  They sent an email that it was cancelled.

My karma must be doing well (actually more like a dark cloud). I ordered some window inserts for a church job and I called for a quote from the yard.  Waited for guy to call back because I had a meeting with the church rep so I called him back, he had gone for day.  A buddy (part owner) quoted me 34.39.  Went to customer and quoted.  Couple of days later first guy called back and says $39, I tell him what the other guy said.

When I picked them up the first guy asked what the second quote had been, told him to just write them at $38.  Took them to the van and noticed that he had charged me for 4 instead of the 6 I got.  I got even, not, I went back and had him add two.  I think he owes me now.

But the karma did kick in, I did the first door and thought to myself "I should mark the position with a piece of tape for top/bottom".  Went on and DW came to help me, got distracted and took one down, we carried it out and put it on the horses and cut it out.  Solid core (coarse chipboard) with EZ and router with the limit stops.

Carried it back in and had a real neat hole at knee level.  Held the cursing down somewhat since it was a church.  Measured lockset and it was centered, center hinge centered, top and bottom hinges equi spaced.  Was able to pull the hinges and flip them and rotate the door.  Minor bevel on strike side, switch lockset, stain touchup and done.  Not a proud fix but looked fine.

The HDT folks send me a monthly statement and allow 2% if mailed by the 10th.  About four times a year my statement goes to never never land or something.  Called and checked, gave me balance and it seemed low.  Knew I had got a toilet and some other stuff.  She could not find anything, took my copy of invoice.  I think that is why I get good deals there, not because I pimp them here (;-).

If anyone noticed that HDT is closed I think Mark is getting married and shut it down for about a month and a half.

Whack on, Dude. I'm with you all the way.Just watched something (could be trash) fall outa this lady's purse --I'm on the phone in my truck, but I say to myself, "Purple wool serape, remember that." Turns out it was a bank envelope, who knows how much was in it, but I found Ms. Purple Serape in the produce aisle -- she burst into tears. So maybe I'm a coupla hundred lighter right now than I might be, but at least I ain't lookin' up, worryin' about stray lightnin' bolts."Instant Karma's gonna gettcha, gonna knock you off your feet!"AitchKay

I think that expecting to get a new $200 router for ten bucks in the hopes that the seller made a mistake is not the way to generate good karma.  Saying it is the seller's own fault for not catching the mistake and therefore your good fortune is quite an exercise in moral logic.

Yesterday I picked up a couple sheets of drywall and a door at HD.  The clerk was on the phone while ringing me out and did not charge me for the door.  By your definition, I should have considered it my good fortune.  Instead, I informed the clerk and got it right.  I also continued to feel great because I had not taken advantage of this "opportunity".How can you understand God if you can't understand people?  How can you understand people if you can't understand yourself?

          5. webby | Mar 15, 2009 03:48pm | #22

I am not disagreeing with you. However I have enough trouble running my own affairs. I don't need to police everyone elses while they do business with me. The seller screwed up or someone screwed up. If it wasn't the sellers fault genuinely then the should take that up with amazon. The more I listen here the more I feel that I was guilted into cancelling the order and all this talk is just making me realize that I am probably out three routers.

The seller is a big outfit, I did a little research. They are making money hand over fist. Is that an excuse or exceptable logic, no. But damb give me a break, if you you screw up it is nice to have people not screw you but at some point you can't fault them if they do PERIOD.

Like I said I don't have the time to run around and police everyone. That is just an aspect of free market capitalism someone sometimes gets taken. Carnegie and Rockefeller would damb well be on my side in this thing.

And who is to say that that wasn't my karma or good luck working for me. Perhaps the seller was liquidating stock because, I noticed that the price went up on the same unit, but it wasn't listed by the same seller. It was listed by amazon. I am thinking damlow prices just liquidated their stock and I missed a fantatstic deal.

Like I said I have done everything I can to cancel the order after I was guilted into it. If the routers come here anyway then I am keeping them.

anyways I am out three routers and I have built ins to build.

And, and I am the guy returning peoples check books to the help desk in Lowes. Found it in the parking lot.

This is not about free-market capitalism.  It is about the golden rule.  If most people try to do the right thing, you may be returning a checkbook today and someone will return yours when you lose it.  You can't count on that, so you try not to lose your stuff.  If I found your check book, you would get it back.  If I found your wallet with $500.00 in it, you would still get it back.  If I found $20 in the parking lot at HD, I would keep it.  That is because it would be impractical to verify the owner.  Imagine me going into the store and announcing I had found $20 in the parking lot.  I would not be surprised to see ten people coming to claim it.  However, if after I stuck the $20 in my pocket someone came driving back into the lot and asked me if I had seen a $20 bill, I would give it to him/her.

If I see a $200 tool on sale at Amazon for $99, I buy it with a good conscience.  If I see the same tool for $7.50, I assume a mistake.  I might still buy it to find out, but would not feel bad or cheated if they came back and said a disgruntled employee had put a bad price in the ad.How can you understand God if you can't understand people?  How can you understand people if you can't understand yourself?

Funny, I don't see you all chastising any of the others who ordered?

Go jump on someone else.  I was just the bearer of news in the original post, and the only one who admitted to cancelling the order for whatever reason. I still say I am tired of policeing everyone else, we all must be responsible for our own actions. I have acquitted myself well here no matter my feelings.

iirc we stole this country from the indians I don't see anyone trying to right that wrong.  When u are trying to get somewhere from nowhere you have to be a little aggressive. Life will crush you if you dont scramble  you got to keep moving and stay shrewd.

Business is business and that is how this nation was built I did nothing that some of the other major figures in history wouldn't have done except they woud have the 3 routers.

Any way the rich get richer at the expense and backbreak of the poor/less fortunate and at the end of the day we all realize that. That is life. It'd just be nice to be on the winning end and enjoy the little fortunes like the three router deal  for once.

Well, I worked as a sub to SEEYOU here on BT as  carpenter/roofer and I'd also highly recomend him as the go-to guy for some of the issues that can arise that are possibly larger than I'd undertake as a one man show that I am.

I still work with Grant as an assembly shop for roof vents and similar things, but my days of 8 hours on roof x 5 days a week , have left..I've run out of body for that.

I've focused on repairs and such and have a great project and client about halfway to Lex.  an 1840's Greek Revival that they keep me on retainer basically..I just keep the monthly expenses with in thier budget and fix, replace, redo as needed.  If I had more like them, I'd be a happy camper..but those old houses are such money pits, many defer repairs until it is almost too late.

The newer homes here in R-mond are failing rapidly, some builder got a deal on some horrid windows ( the Comp. is long gone) and the Mcmansions he built are having some serious issues, but the folks are strapped to the Mortgage and can't upgrade..I got 5 or 6 calls last week from the same subdivision, but they all can't swing the expense to repair the rotted framing and replace the windows.

We are the fasted growing county in the state right now, I hope that the work more close to home would pick up, but the $$$ has to be more available for the improvements.

Quite the oddity being in a "bedroom community" of Lexington and the horse farms, and yet we also have many homes such as my log home, that are in  relatively good shape, while the new improved homes, are junk.

Makes for being a well rounded tradesman a very desirable thing..I've seen it all from the plumbing fiasco with polybutyl to shingles that had the grit wash off in the first rain..amazing actually.

Thanks for passing my name along..thats your good karma (G).Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

I'm not chastening you or anybody else.  I'm voicing my opinion, just like you are.  This isn't court.

I also didn't say you should have cancelled the order.  I'm just saying that I would not consider it a misfortune if the deal turned out to be based on a mistake.  If something looks too good to be true, it may not be true.

I think you got a little defensive early on and therefore my comments seemed like criticism.  Don't take it so personally, even though I was replying to your post.  I tend to speak in generalities here and often people assume I am talking just about them.

I am not implying that you are dishonest.  I understand that the fact that you returned a checkbook is a sign of honesty and consideration for the other guy.

I agree that it is a dog-eat-dog world, and not only in business, but I try not to operate that way.

The subject of taking land from the Native Americans could be a whole other thread.  I also have an opinion on that.

First, I do not advocate that it was the right thing to do.  I do acknowledge that it happened and that it was not pretty.  Many of the world's problems are based on control over territory.  In the last century, much of the mideast, far east, Africa, and many countries in the rest of the world were carved up into areas that did not reflect historical, cultural, tribal, and even ethnic ties.  Much of this carving was done by the industrialized nations with the US and Great Britain usually being at the table and taking turns drawing the lines.  The evidence of this can be found in the straight lines on maps of Africa and other countries.  That does not make it right or wrong.  It just happened.  I am sure it was well meant to lead to a more stable, civilized, and predictable world.

If you look back historically, pretty much every inch of land in the world was taken by force multiple times throughout history.  Nobody started out with a deed.  Everything was stolen.  Everybody is guilty.  This is currently the root of the Palestinian-Israeli dispute.  The land was carved out at the end of WWII.  Both sides claim historical rights to the land and both sides were there throughout recorded history.  Both sides have learned not to give up and they have enough support to keep up the fight.  The Native Americans didn't have the same tools when they were faced with the european invasion.

Now that the world is generally "stable", we would like to keep things pretty much as they are.  You can't steal someone's land like in the old days and have nobody notice.  Hence we have the Tibet situation and the Cyprus situation and the Kosovo situation and really quite many more smoldering under the ashes of WWII.

But I digress. How can you understand God if you can't understand people?  How can you understand people if you can't understand yourself?

Who doesn't type out a few words here now and then and have them come out different from intentions?  And who doesn't interpret other than expected?

It's not a problem!  Make it a great day!How can you understand God if you can't understand people?  How can you understand people if you can't understand yourself?
