Heads up – Strapshot gun on clearance

JulianTracy | Posted in Tools for Home Building on March 7, 2009 01:20am

Might want to look at Lowes if you’ve been thinking about getting a Bostich Strapshot gun.

They’ve got the 1 1/2″ version for $109, clearanced out from $249 or so.

Here’s a question for you guys though – is it worth having a 1 1/2″ version? I bought the display and got 10% off, but are there many times when I’ll need the 2 1/2″ version?

Most things I’ll use it on are joist hangers and such oon decks – that’s about it.

And I’m in MI, so no need for hurricane or earthquake-proofing anything.

What’s you think – 1 1/2″ will do for my needs, huh?

For $100 it would seem I can’t do wrong on it.

YMMV — Lowes’ clearances vary from store to store I’ve found.

I'd jump on it and just keep the palm nailer handy.

I use may more 1 1/2's than I do longer.

It's sweet, that's for sure - looks like only needs about 8" clearance.JT

Where are you located.  Just wondering if that clearance will be around my area.

    Julian,

    Thanks for the 'heads up'

I just checked with two Lowes near me ( west of chicago)

First one never heard of the tool (probably just the 16 yo knucklehead I talked to), the second store said yes it is on clearance, but their price($186) was not as good as yours.

At the $109 price I was going to run out and get one, at $186 I'll have to think about it and hope that it drops some more.

    Regards Rich

I got one last year, unfortunately there are many more times that I see 2 1/2" called out for most Simpson stuff without severe downgrading.  Also they seem to love those "double shear" ones at most of my suppliers.  They require the longer nail for joist to header/ledger/rim.

I think if I had it to do over I would spend more and get the 2 1/2.  Actually would look for the Hitachi.

For those who have fought for it Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know.

I own 3 of the Hitachi NR65AK's with the long magazine and one with the short magazine. I also have one Bostitch MCN 150 with a short magazine. My guys like that Bostitch the best when shooting 1-1/2'' nails. It is so light and can really get into the tight spots. I have been using it for over a year with no problems. Great gun. And if I can find one for $100.00 I will buy it even though the last thing I need is another nailer, that price is way too good to pass up.

I got that gun on the lowes clearance for $88 a few days ago.  Posted about it in the deals thread.  If there's anyone here in Colorado, it was the Lowes off 104th, and as of then there were 2 left.
