heat loss through the cathedral ceiling
5 years ago we put on a new roof. Lindal cedar home with cathedral ceilings. the new roof had interior 1″ cedar boards, next 12″fiberglass un faced batts, next those thin air channel panels, next advantec underlament, next roll tarpaper, finally shingles. we installed venting in the soffits and ridge vents. With the recent snowfall th e view from the outside shows clumps of snow with gaps down to the shingles. What did we do wrong?

A ceiling like that
is a disaster without a layer of drywall to control air leakage. Warm air is moving up between the boards, thru gaps in the insulation, and hitting the bottom of the roof deck.
Got any can lights in there?
Yeah, probably air leakage through the ceiling. It would have been worth it to install a layer of housewrap or plastic directly above the cedar.
