Heating/cooling Duct conversion
Is there a source on the net that will tell me what size a square/rectangular fitting is equivalent to a round duct?
I am putting new duct work in my house for a new furnace and AC. I currently have 3″ duct and I am going to increase the size 6″. I need to know what size register (often rectangular) to get so it will match the airflow requirements of a round duct.
To make the job easier, I am thinking I could put an adapter on the supply plenum that will allow me to connect a 6″ duct without having to install a new starter fitting.
Can anyone tell me if an adapter that fits a 3″ round duct to a 6″ round duct will restrict the airflow.
Anybody know any web sources for this kind of info? Thanks

What do you gain when you attach a 6" pipe to a 3" take off of your main plenum?
