I just bought a new air con unit, the kind that sits in a window. But I don’t want to put it in a window. I can’t just sit it completely in the room because the heat out the back of the unit will cancel the cool out the front. Would it work if I put the whole unit in the garage, and then piped the cool air into the destination room using a dryer vent (or equivalent) duct taped to the front of the air con unit? It sounds odd, but I think it might work. i only need to cool off one room 1 month per year, and I don’t want to ugly-ify my house if I can avoid it. Can anyone comment of this?
Thanks.

You are serious?
Use a swamp cooler instead.
The trouble with your plan is that the unit needs to also take air out of the room you are supplying cool air too.
Look at the face of the window unit. The top of the unit has discharge air vents. The bottom half has a return air area with a filter in front of it.
You cool a room or house by removing heat from it, not by just adding cool air to it.
They do make portable a/c units designed for just the type of application you are seeking. They are outfitted with the proper size return and supply flex duct for the unit size.
