I (and a couple of friends) will be installing a bay window in my home. It will be delivered at least 1-2 days in advance. What is the best and safest way to store it. I have an attached garage which gets a lot of foot traffic from the kids (3, 7, 10) and the family dog.

First, kill the kids and dog.
Second, find an out of the way corner and lean some plywood against it.
You really should have to much worry about it. I would think with a sheet of plywood keeping an errant ball from breaking a window you'll be fine.

Whenever framing a house, we have to deal with temporary storage of the windows, either on the ground or in the structure. To protect, we normally construct a rough shell of 2x's and 1/2" ply, attached with decking screws for easy disassembly later. Place a couple of 2x's flat to carry the span of the window and then place a 2x in each corner and sheet. voila!
