Is that the one where, at a Labor day gathering, a 2nd floor deck pulled off of the home it was attached to while it was full of people? If it is, it turned out that the problem was that the deck was nailed to the house and not bolted or better yet was not built as free standing as many municipalities now require. It turned out that a few hundred decks throughout that development were built the same way by the same contractor. Oh yeah, I don't know where to finbd this article. Try looking through the electronic archives of that area's local newspaper if it is available. It is here in Cleveland all the way back to 1976 I think.

*You might be thinking of "This Old House" magazine. Their Jul/Aug 98 issue had a decent article on safe decks. One of the photos in the article was of the Kalamazoo deck.
