I am attempting to paint my oak kitchen cabinets (sorry oak fans) with an oil based paint. The paint remained tacky for a week, the can claims to be ready to recoat in 12 hours. The paint dried nicely on the stir stick and the second coat took around 18 hrs. The cabinets are clear coated (with what I’m not sure I can’t get ahold of the manufacturer) I’m assuming poly or lacquer. I roughed up the surface to improve adhesion and then wiped clean with thinner. I get the feeling something is leaching out of the wood or the existing finish and mixing with the paint. I would greatly appreciate any insight as to what the problem could be and how to remedy it.
Thanks N.E.T.
