Help w mansard/gambrel valley flashing

ovolo | Posted in Construction Techniques on January 11, 2007 07:40am

Can I get suggestions from you flashing/roofing/copper experts. I want to do this right but its also about workability in the cold etc..

how do we do this valley right? we have piles of Grace, copper and coilstock standing by but realised I might want to do a combo of V and step fleasing all the way through. We have two of them and one of them drops down onto a porch roof only 4 inches below..

thanks

arthur

ps. I am not practiced at pictures, feel free to correct me.. thanks

    Greetings O,

This post, in response to your question, will bump the thread through the 'recent discussion' listing again which will increase it's viewing.

Perhaps it will catch someone's attention that can help you with advice.

How did this thread slip by us?

I would use step flashings over I&W all the way up that valley, treating it almost like a wall intersetion. That method was more common with older slate roofs

hey folksI actaully did post this question twice. Because as Piffin mentioned nobody bit the first time. I think it was SeeYou who responded to the second one. I am not a frequent poster and because no one answered I assumed I did something wrong with the post and did another one. Thanks for your responses now...
we actually are going to do them both this week. The one over the new porch roof..(was that pic included?) I framed in the old dormer striaght to the wall, so as to get rid of the bad intersection. The other simple mansard valley we decided to lap and scribe and solder a solid copper valley. Hard to explain. The guys said they figured it out, I will show you what they come up with in a couple days. Thanks again

like paul said... we'd treat it as a sidewall against a roof.. so we'd stepflash it

here we used black coil stock and we hold the shingles up 3/4

so it looks like a shadow line

in this case it really is sidewall  over roof... but the same thing would be true if it were a valley formed by two intersecting gambrel steep pitches
