Help with insulating with rigid foam and asbestos siding.
Hi everyone,
I’ve been remodeling for personal flips for the past several years here in the Greenville, SC area and have recently started exploring doing some spec building as well as remodeling for an AirBnB I plan on keeping and would like to make the property more efficient. I just found the FHB Podcast and have been reading voraciously back issues of FHB and I’ve started reading papers from the Building Science group, but I’m having trouble finding papers that apply exactly to my situation and I’m hoping to get an answer sooner than later.
Right now, we have a 1950s home with a brick foundation and a vented crawlspace. It has 2×4 framing and it is gutted to the studs and we will be rewiring and installing new mechanicals. The house currently has asbestos siding installed over 1-by sheathing and in the past we would just put vinyl over top of it. About half of the windows are salvageable, but the plan right now is to build a box and reinstall all of the windows so we can put rigid foam around the entire house. We just put a new architectural shingle roof with a vented ridge. Please tell me what I should do for a more efficient home. Thank you so much.
