Hi to Everyone – I am a retired homeowner who needs some suggestions for a DIY backsplash above the kitchen sink. Here is the problem: from the countertop there are two rows of tile (2″ wide, with the top covered with a thin strip of metal banding), then about a two inch section of exposed drywall which is followed by the MDF windowsill molding. Because the exposed drywall tends to get wet with normal use of the sink, I need to cover the exposed section with something that’s waterproof. I’m not sure what options are available, but I sure would appreciate your suggestions (plywood strip covered with acrylic paint? plastic strip glued to drywall?). I don’t know how to set/cut tile and feel that any attempts to do so on my part would not not end well. Thanks for your help.

Thickness of what that metal strip is will probably give you only a couple of options.
A course of matching, bold opposite tile accent, color close/complementary solid surface or even a strip of mirror.
Or, time to change it all.
I second the change it all option. Nothing you add to what you have will look have as good as doing it over.
FRP. Fiberglass reinforced panel. I had a similar situation above a laminate back splash. I used FRP to cover the drywall that needed a lot of work. It's easy to work with and comes with edge and corner treatments. I'm not sure if there are colors available other than white.
Almond is another color
