Picked up a like new pedestal sink at my local habitat store this weekend. Figured out why it was donated when I put the sink on the base, they don’t fit very well together.
what can I use to bed the sink in on the base that will eliminate the bits of play that it has right now. Something that will dry hard and comes in white?
I got it for 15 bucks so no love lost if I can’t get it to work, but it is really nice and much better than our current ped sink.
thanks

White grout or plaster of paris

Excellence is its own reward!
Assuming this is a china sink and base, I'd lean towards bedding it in something that is cushy, like a healthy bead of silicone (which is available in white), But if you really want something that dries hard and sticks for ever, try Marine Tex epoxy.
how bad is the "play" ...
I'm also thinking silicone.
either white or clear.
get set ... plumb ... set as close as possible ... bedded in a heavy bead ...
maybe even shim with the clear plastic toilet shims till everything sets up.

when sitting on the base the sink only contacts in 2 diagonally opposite corners. If I adjust the base (with the sink level) so 3 corners touch there is about 3/16" to 1/4" gap on the non touching side and the base is visibly askew.I like the grout idea. I have some left over that I could use.. .
Why not some judicious grinding of the base?
Most pedestal sinks don't sit on the pedestal, they hang on the supplied (new) brackett that the olumber screwed-on the wall in way of the blocking the GC made sure was in the wall pre-sheetrock. Pedestal slides under tyhe sink to cover the drain. cunningly designed to look like the sink sits on it. get a bracket at the plumbing supply and figure out where the block needs to be..... Jim
ah I see.The blocking is already there, a 2x10 I put in when remodeling the bath last summer. My current - el cheapo ped sink meshed up pretty well with the base so when this one did not I figured it was not good.I still may bed it in grout anyway, just to keep the base from wobbling.
A lot of new pedestal sinks come with self adhesive foam pads that take up slack and keep the top and base from grinding against each other. Four usually go on in a square pattern.
good idea.
white foam weather stripping.
stick it and set it.
