I was standing in the shadows in Worcester last Friday watching you run your clinic on housed stair cases. (nice job, BTW). What was the name of that cool folding saw again? It had a funny name that rhymed with something I really should remember, but don’t!
I knew I shoulda wrote it down!

I don't know if its the same as the one you're talking about, but I've got a folding dozuki saw I bought from Lee Valley
I find it very handy and useful, and being able to fold the blade into the handle protects it
the 2 drawbacks I"m aware of is that the teeth are kind of brittle, and break off if pushed to hard ( but replacement blades are available), and you have to get used to cutting on the pull stroke
Thanks Shep.... I know of the saw you are talking about... that's not it. Very, very similar but it seemed more durable and a little more versatile. It believe it is actually a backpacker's type of saw as opposed to a woodworkers saw. It's something you would use for rough cuts, say on shims, framing lumber, etc. Thanks though.

The Lee Valley folding pruning saw is just as sharp. I sliced myself good just pointing to the teeth one day. Danged thing is so sharp it's too sharp to cut bread. And yeah, five pulls through a bone-dry spruce 2x4 sound about right....Dinosaur

Eeeeyowch !
The first one I found was 50 bucks !!
I did find one at japan woodworker for 31 dollars...
Silly Tomboy
Right now, that's still a chunka change. Especially if you add shipping. I think I'll probably survive for another week or 60...
Looks like a really nice saw though. And one that would actually find itself being used around here. So I will eventually get one.
Thanks guys !

I almost got that for CABMAN for the xmas swap..but for some reason, I got him a corner chisel instead. I have often gotten that saw for buddies for Xmas, everyone who saw mine, wanted one.I have about 10 blades that need resharpening if ya want a spare or two?

Hey now, there's a good idea. One spare to sharpen and one to just leave be and use for the jobs where it's just going to get buggered again anyway...Also give me incentive to get the saw itself. LOL; )I really like how the blade folds inside like that. I like a nice sharp blade. And around me, they can get buggered pretty quickly. Even if they are not in use...

The description on the japan woodworker page says "We always carry one in a backpack for collecting wood samples from fallen trees, and insist our children keep one in the car for safety's sake."
Keep one in the car?!? for amputations...emergency appendectomy...they are serious about their saws.

Yes..it is NOT a toy. Anyselfrespectingcitizen oughtta be equipped with one..just like a S.W.K....if a 10'' dia. tree falls in front of your car, in a blizzard, ....you CAN and WILL be outta there before hypothermia gets ya..no lie. When Y2K was the focus locus, I handed them out to close friends..the most versatile "bill collecting" lubricant ya ever saw..I went to a Holloween partay..dressed in full work rigure ( what the heck, it beat buyin a costume) and a fight ensued among the wizzards with light wands...One flash of the blade , and all got , very , very,,subdued..right quik.I did go back and fix the handrail on the deck, but...the rest of the night was peaceful...............

Some states, people have a car/truck gun...
Other states, best you can do is a car/truck saw.
Formerly just 'Don' but not the 'Glassmaster Don' or the lower-case 'don'.

I too bet it's the Silky Gomboy...awesome saw for tool belt. I usually get a new one when the blade gets dull, a new blade is almost as much a s the whole saw..and almost impossible to resharpen..

SPhere,
I've been resharpening the japanese type saws with a dremel and a small cut off wheel. May not be as good as new but work better than dull. Even sharpened some shotcut saws for my turd chaser buddy.KK
yup..thats the best way, I have a feather file for "normal" Japanese saws, but for some reason the Gomboy is really hard steel. The file just skates across.I just cut off a vent stack on a roof last week and really FUBAR'd the blade. I'll get out the dremel when I think of it..probly the next time I need the saw!! LOL.

First off, why didn't you say hi? What am I, chopped liver?
The saw is a Gomboy.

You looked busy?!?! I get shy sometimes Andy.... my bad. ;) In all seriousness, I was on the way out the door when I saw you in the middle of your demonstration. I stopped and watched for a few minutes and had to get going cuz I had my wife's car and had to pick her up from work. Didn't want to unload the truck or leave it in Worcester for a couple hours at the show. Thought it'd be rude to interrupt..... and even stranger if I was forced to yell out "I'm Dieselpig!" in front of such a large crowd!!! LOL.
Gotta get back to work. Thanks though.

OK, we're good then. Thought maybe I'd done something to tick you off. BTW, I don't like leaving my truck in downtown Worcester, either.Andy Engel
