I couldn’t find your e-mail address, and the one here won’t let me post attachments so I have to do it here. When I was in kindergarden we lived in Index. Back then it was a nice little town, and from what I remember we had a good time. Not as nice as when we lived in the back woods of Quebec but a good time none the less. Anyway my dad dug up this picture and I was wondering if you knew the spot. It’s overlooking the horse shoe curve on the railroad. I remember when it was taken, we were hiking and picnicing. I believe it was taken from a small road side park so that may be a clue as to the area. Do you have any updated pictures of Index? It would be cool to have one taken from the same spot. This one was taken around 67 or 68.

Great pic !!!!
If I knew the road they took to get up there, I would drive up and take a pic right away. I'm sure the contrast would be striking.
I'll re-attach the pic here, and put an arrow on it. That arrow will point the direction that I live in. I live about 6 miles... "thataway"... A good heart embiggins even the smallest person.

From what I remember we lived somewhere around where the arrow I drew is pointing. If I remember right if you walked out of the front door and hung a right. You walked maybe a few blocks and there was a small store there, that we used to love to go to. You had to cross a railroad crossing first.Who Dares Wins.
Where the light blue line is, is the only RR track in town.
The dark blue lines indicate the new DOUBLE LANE, (wow !!), arched bridge.
The yellow dot is where the store is currently located.
The red building that you see catty-corner to the store, (Above it in the pic), is the tavern. Still there, but for sale right now. A good heart embiggins even the smallest person.

I called pops a little bit ago and he couldn't remember how we got up there. But he said he had more so I'll get them from him when I see him. I got to be careful though he's been pulling these kinds of pictures out also so I have to be careful what I hope for.Who Dares Wins.

My turn to hijack a Luka thread...
Anybody been up near Calgary, near Lake Louise actually I think, and seen the railroad tunnel that does a full circle? I was visiting back just after the olympics (88?) and we went sightseeing. Stopped at a lookout point and waited for the train...a long one, and it goes in one end of the tunnel like a worm and comes out at a lower elevation, and you can see both ends!Do it right, or do it twice.
Yes it was Frampton. Now that I think I think it was 9th grade.Who Dares Wins.
This is a pic of Mt Index.
Taken from in the town of Index.
I was standing roughly where your original arrow was pointing. I also pointed the camera roughly in the same direction that your picture was taken. So this is basicaly what you would see if you were in the original picture, on the street there, oriented the same direction.
You can see the new arch bridge on the left there. The railroad bridge is basicaly in the center.

Thanks. So that was looking up at where I was looking down at you? I'm gonna forward that to my dad, maybe that will get him to dig out the rest of the Index collection. I know that he has one of the house we lived in, and a few of town.Who Dares Wins.
No, actualy, that is looking off in the opposite direction.
As you look down at me in your picture, you see my back. I am looking in the same direction you are looking in. A good heart embiggins even the smallest person.

Ask your dad what road he took to get up there to take that pic.
If I know the road, I may be able to try to get up there to take a new one. A good heart embiggins even the smallest person.
