I had a “callback” on this hickory stairway I built two years ago. I had a very small check in the surface of one tread.
I always tell the new owners that these stairs are my children..and I have to take care of them occasionally. 🙂

Nice looking work! I like the photography too. The design of the upper walkway is pretty dramatic.
Aside from the fact that staircase is absolutely gorgeous, I'm impressed just by the logistics of transporting it from your shop to the site and getting it inside the house and installed. Is that shop-built in one piece or did you pre-make most of the parts and assemble it on site?

Dinosaur: Thanks for the generous comments. It was built completely in my shop...it had to go through a 3 foot door..and through the living room..turn a corner..then we set it into the curved wall that was already drywalled. When I installed this...I posted pictures of ten guys screwing this through the house...this was the largest stairway that I shipped assembled.
Man Stan, that is one tasty set of stairs. And, that balcony, whew!
In carrold, the balcony rail looks dropped from the gooseneck. Is it? If it is, it looks so smooth. How did you make that transition?
Oh yeah, how'd you fix the check? Don't worry, we can fix that later!
Bucksnort: Thanks... the railing is level with the gooseneck..the picture looks weird for some reason.
The check isnt fixed yet...but I am just going to take a very tapered side grain piece of hickory...glue it in and sand it. It should blend right in.
Shoulda called your local TV station; they would have probably loved to make a news item about it for their local news program. Great visuals in something like that.
