Hickory Hardwood Flooring on exterior wall

I am wanting to replace some old siding on the front gable of our house. It’s a pretty small area, about 350sf. We would like to do some natural wood and I found some Hickory hardwood flooring tongue and groove 5” width for a great deal! I am wondering if hardwood flooring would work in this application or not. Not sure how the finish would hold up, if at all. Would it work to plane down the finish and re-stain and seal it for an outdoor application? I live in Portland , OR FYI. Thanks for any help.

Hickory is one of the least rot resistant woods there is. Might work if you have decent overhang but there are no clear finishes that will prosper there. I have unfinished rustic hickory siding on a small shed with good overhang that looks good after 25 years..
But I'd be reluctant to use it on a house.
Thanks for the reply. That’s kind of where my thinking was at. Do you have a finish on your shed or just left it natural? It’s a pretty small area so I may give it a whirl and see how it does. If I need to replace it, so be it. Thanks again!
Well then go for it. All the siding on my shop, house and numerous sheds and outbuildings is various species of hard and soft woods with no finish what so ever. Some of it is 40 years old and going strong.
