Hey guys,
Does anyone know of a source for hidden door hinges? I checked Rockler and Woodcraft and neither have them.
By hidden I mean the kind that are used when crafting a door that will be hidden when closed and have no visible hinge pin assembly.
Thanks.

*Check with Rockler again. The Soss hinges are shown on page 33 of the Fall 2001 catalog and on page 47 of the Fall 2 2002 catalog. You should also be able to find them on their web site http://www.rockler.com
*Soss are OK, but a pain to install and you get zero tweekability. They're too deep for a standard 3/4" jamb unless you solid block behind it.Get hold of some Rixon pivot hardware. High dollar but worth it.I'm sure if you're in a large city, one of the decorative hardware stores can hook you up. Rixon may have their own web site. Ed.
*First some history:http://www.yalesecurity.com/company/history/index.cfmNow, the goods from Rixson:http://www.yalesecurity.com/library/catalogs/rixson/index.cfmYou'll want to check out the pivot catalog. Ed, I don't think this qualifies as hidden hardware. The floor closers certainly come close (at $450 a piece) but the pivots mentioned above, are exposed. I think that the Soss hinges are really the only way to go, even though they are a major pain in the butt to install and adjust.
*Thanks guys.I didn't even see the Soss hinges in the Rockler catalog until I looked again after you mentioned them. Duh! I've been on this project wayyy tooo long. Thanks again.Mike
*Thanks Tim,It's been a few years since I've used them. I could swear they made an invisible hinge.Oh well.Ed.
*Michael,The Soss hinges should do the job as long as you have addressed thickness, clearances and anchoring conditions deep into the door and jamb side. Use more than enough hinges to prevent sag. Set up a jig for your plunge router and make tight mortises accurately backset from the face of the door/jamb. By all means, make a mock-up.GT
*Recently (last 2-3 months) there was a thread that mention a hinge similar to the Soss, but was adjustable and easier to use. If it was not here try the JLC finish forum.
*try http://www.sugatsune.com/indexUSA.cfm
*Michael,FWIW, I've been using Hafele hinges for years. They are available in flush and stile cabinet mounts. I use a 1" Fortsner bit on the DP for the mortises on the door stiles. Have great adjustability and always have been able to obtain them locally from a hardware store or cabinet shop. Some swear by Soss, what ever you're used to I guess.Dano
