Bob I like that hidden gate idea. I need to go back to a deck belonging to one of my brothers and change the top of the railing and since they now have kids I told them they SHOULD add a gate so I'll try an engineer in that treatment. Kool idea.

Thanks Jerrald- This customer has a 2 year old they wanted to keep in, this system works well but your gate has to swing out in order for the latch to be on the outside.This type of latch can also be locked for extra safety.
The railing is made from 5/4 x 4 primed pine and the rail cap is 2x6 Trex.
I also like to install an adjustable screen door diagonal brace to take out any sag as the gate gets used.Bob
