Haven’t even researched products yet, but what’s to think of, in building planning, for hiding the unit that produces the steam?
How about proximity to steam shower?

Gene, on most of our steam shower installs we will put the generator under the bench in the shower with an access panel on the other side of the wall.
Gene,
Both of the projects I have mentioned in the other thread have closets on the other side of the wall to locate the Generator.
Can't get more convenient then that.
Problem with putting them under the seat is that they become subject to the conditions and so does the cavity containing them.
Sometimes can be located inside the vanity under the sinks(no drawers), or usually on the other side of the shower wall.(another room) All of our installations have been within 10 linear feet of piping from unit to head.
length of run isn't really a problem, but don't put any steam traps in the line...either all up hill, or all down hill...we usually opt to put them in the basement, or crawl space, but attic works just about as well
I wish I didn't know now, what I didn't know then
Just finished one. Installed the unit in the basement directly below. It was a perfect spot. The client and I lucked out. Based on the opinion of several plumbers Steamist was the product of choice. We did not install a bench, but a fold down seat (teak) from Kohler. I had come up with the seat idea from boating days and having a teak swim platform that folded up against the transom, lo and behold Kohler must have thought of the same thing.

Was that basement location for the boiler unit directly underneath, or close?

Offset just alittle, total run, maybe 10-11feet.
