Regarding Hip Roof Shingle Details-

I’m doing 63 squares of hip roof with SBS modified asphalt shingles and am looking for some details on how to treat hips.  The factory info on the wrappers is vague and when I look for a detail in the NRCS books, they don’t have any.  What I’m most familiar with is overlapping at the hip, cutting a line along the hip ridge and then installing cap shingles.  The problem with this method is that if the cap shingle fails, the water goes directly to the felts/underlayment.

Anybody doing anything different?  Any suggestions for web sites to check for those helpful photos & diagrams?  Thanks.
