I was just reading about the use of pneumatic tools around the turn of the century, when were compressors, compressed air tools first used? And how about plywood, when was that first mass-manufactured? Radial arm saw: world war II?

Literal air guns were used in the Napleonic period. Some type of wagon-mounted compressors were used to refill the guns. Probably some kind of pump with a hand-operated lever I assume. The users of the air guns were treated very badly when caught by the other side, as it was quite an advantage to get off several shots in those days.
*I was told that plywood was first used here(Washington Metro area) around world war II. This is coming from the old time carpenters that I pump for info on how they did things back in the good old days. One of them told me he remembered when table saws on big( read that commerical now adays) jobs were run by belts off a gas motor. Most of this guys just shake there heads when they stop by and watch hoow we do things now a days. They do like my cordless nail guns and have even borrowed them once or twice. I figure that it's a good trade off because some of them have taught me the loss art of sharping a hand saw
