The other day I stopped into Lowed because I was running ahead of schedule and had some time to kill before a meeting. I’ve been in the market for a new portable table saw and went over to peruse the displays. That where I made my discovery, I didn’t even know Hitachi made a table saw, I own a Hitachi 10″ dual bevel miter saw and really like it. Up to this point I fairly much had decided on buying the Bosh table saw but the Hitachi is about $150 to $200 cheaper.
Here’s a bit of the specs: 10″, 2.5hp, 15amp, 5000 no load rpm, electric brake, all metal construction. Comes with a folding stand (similar to the Dewalt) and the fence seems decent.
Anybody have any opinions about this saw?

Scott, I recently bought the Bosch 4000 after much shopping around. I own several Hitachi tools, SCM, planer- joiner combo etc. I am extremely happy with these tools but with that being said I can not recommend the Hitachi table saw. The additional 150- 200 that you will spend for the Bosch will soon be forgotten. The max rip width on the Hitachi is 15 inches, the Bosch will do 25 inches. The Dewalt was the only other saw that I considered. Check out the table saw survey in the Nov. 2000 issue of FHB. I wish I had bought the Bosch a longtime ago. Good luck with your search.

Have yhe Bosch myself. None of the adjustment problems that you read about else where. Plenty of power. Accurate. Well thought out bells and whistles.
Pleeeeese check out the Rigid job site table saw before making a final decision. Check out my post in "Tools for Homebuilding" about a week ago.
Thanks for the input. Right after I posted this I thought about the comment section that the Tool Crib has. After reading some of those comments about this saw I think I'll spend the extra bucks for the Bosch.
The general opinion of people that wrote comments were; it's a decent saw for what you pay but many had wished they spent the extra bucks for a better saw.
Some listed a few issues I don't think I could live with.
dieselpig, I'd like to read your comments, can you be a bit more specific where?

Post # 28237.1 is it. Just click on "tools for "homebuilding" in the right column to open up the previous discussions. It's only about a week old and is about 20 posts from the top. Discussion title is "Rigid Job Site Table Saw". I just can't say enough good things about this saw. Unfortunatly, Home Depot exclusively sells this saw. My personal opinion is that I like it better than the Bosch for the same money and it comes with an unbelievable wheeled stand. Lifetime warranty. Worth considering before you make your final decision, if you have the time to shop around a little.
