I recently discovered a hole in my fiberglass shower enclosure. Second story bathroom , hole is 1/2″ X 1/4″ . What is the solution? Should I try to repair it somehow or bite the bullit and rip it up and replace the whole thing ?(with tile this time)

It's an easy fix for the moment. Just got to your local hardware or auto parts store and get a small fiberglass repair kit. Follow the instructions and you'll be fine.
In your future planning you can deal with the replacement if you own the place. Fiberglass bathroom fixtures and made to break.
I figured, if faced with this problem, I might (for a larger hole) attempt to work a piece of wood/plywood into the hole, with a piece of wire through it. Twist wood piece around to close the hole, then work fiberglass/resin into the hole around the wire. When set, snip the wire close and apply another layer of FG/resin.
Another option, if it's just a split, would be to drill some small holes and inject some good ole yucky spray foam under the cracked area to support it, then (after cleaning up the gunk that spews back through the holes) apply a layer of FG/resin.
Be sure that the shower is indeed FG before attempting any repair, though.
There are pros that can do this sort of job and make a nearly invisible repair, if that's desired.
