The most common way to make your own parging mix is to use either Type S mortar for block or Type N for brick and add a concrete bonding additive.

Oh, you mean for the holes in the shingles!
I would replace the shingles myself. That is as easy as mixing filler, sanding, and repainting. And more likely to keep water out.

OK, but then explainto him what to do when you mess up the next higher shingle getting out the damaged shingle, and then when you replace the next higher shingle, you've messed up the third one up, and so forth until the entire wall has to be reshingled.Or is there a tool for this? I know, I know, a "nail thief". I just did this with asphalt shingles and it turned out that to remove shingles in one course, I had to remove nails from the third course above it. The nail thief works good for this, but at least you can bend asphalt shingles up, or you could until our local temperatures PLUNGED into the 40's!
Shingle thiefAnd it works better for cedars than for asphalt. The ones you get now are drop forged and clumsy though. My old one ( lost or stolen) was more like thin spring steel that slid in easily. So the new ones, you have to work down with a grinder to get thin at least at the knife edges.

I've got woodpeckers galoore around here,, periodically one will tap on my house to see if he can hear any insects scurry around. So far none worth persuing so I'm hole free but that can't last forever. Sooner or later they'll hear one and I'll be in trouble..
Hate to have holes in my black walnut timbers..

NO I can't go shooting since it's not allowed in my community.
