Ok, I gotta know something. Every time they do a shower stall on the HOH show, they put in a tub spout near the shower floor. Why do that in a shower stall, a bathtub makes sense, but a shower? Is a Canadian building code? I am a ceramic tile contractor here in Minnesota, I have tiled hundreds of showers but have never once seen a tub spout in one.

It's called a "toe Tester" to get the water temp adjusted.

I can see kids standing on it to adjust the shower head...
on the old "This Old house", what his name went to sweden where they waterproof the old bathroom and the shower was hanging off the wall with a floor drain, want a bath, the tub was on wheels and push under the wall spicet, then drain on the floor, down the floor drain.
I didn't say it made sense, I've just heard it called that.

I install foot spouts all the time. Infact I try to convince the client to do so. The extra cost in buying a "shower" faucet vs a "Tub" faucet is about $5 and labor is nothing.
I install the thing at the same height as a 5 gallon bucket. Think!!! It's alot easier to fill a bucket in the shower with the tub spout than to lift and tilt it in a sink that is too small.

I know the cost isn't much different, I could see it in a mud room or utlity room shower, just not in the master bedroom or hall bath.
Just my opinion I guess
For showers here I usually am doing the second bath/shower. The primary is mostly bath tub.
This one I'm doing now is the main floor and basement showers. The main has no foot spout."No doubt exists that all women are crazy; it's only a question of degree." - W.C. Fields
I had wondered the same thing. But now that I think about it, it makes a lot of sense. Down here in Georgia where we have level 4 watering restrictions, people are filling buckets in their showers with the water that runs before the hot hits the tap. I don't know if I like the look, but it makes sense for water conservation.
It might sound retarded, but let me tell you, it's nice to get the temp of the water adjusted before you have it coming out the shower. And it's handy for filling a bucket, or for giving the dog a bath.
Our builder suggested it, and I'd do it every time in future.
To each his own, I guess. You might try things before dismissing them with idiotic statements.
Isn't getting the temperature set what temperature balancing valves are for? And I can fill a bucket using the handheld shower head.
Your shower head has a restrictor in it that limits it to 2.5 gallons per minute or less, meaning 2 minutes to fill that 5 gallon bucket. A tub spout can cut that time in half, if not more.
you might kiss my asz before calling my comments idiotic
look where you saw it!

I find your "sounds retarted" comment offensive.
I have a friend with mental retardation.
How about "sounds Jewish" or "sounds Irish"?
It all sounds bad to me.
Give it some thought, please.

OK, it's an attempt at humour.

no it's not a Canadian building code thing... Mike Holmes probably just likes doing them for the benefits pointed out by others here. I dont have one, but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to installing one in a new shower. Seems odd to me that folks think it's a weird idea....
