Here is a cobbed together panorama of the floor layout, showing the curved shower pan. Didn’t Ray do a fine job of putting that together?

Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.

Sorry, I'm obviously doing something not right here. I thought I could post individual jpegs with comments, but I guess I'd better do it all at once here. Next pic is a panorama of the walls, wainscott and window, showing the shower stall. Then there's a tall shot of the entire shower, showing the arch overhead. Originally we were going to do a barrel vault, but we got smart about that in a hurry. I guess that's all the pictures I've got worth posting, but I'd be happy to answer any ?s about sources etc.
Aimless,
Beautiful work! It looks like a very inviting bathroom. You shoudl be proud!"When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading." ~ Henny Youngman
Geez...and here we thought all the heartache you were going through was for some run-of-the-mill 5x7 bathroom remodel...lol. Beautiful job- hopefully the finished product made all the agony worthwhile.

Excelente!
Beautifull work.Regards,

Heeeeey, who you trying to fool here, missy ?
You're just pulling our legs, thats not a real bathroom.
Where's the dirty underwear on the floor ?
The dirty towels thrown on the toilet and sink ?
The rinsed out pantyhose hanging from the shower curtain rod ???
Very cool look there, Amy. That took talent. And not just being able to do the hands-on work. But theres art/designing talent there as well. Very cool.
Posting at Breaktime should not be a full contact sport.

Luka,
I wish it were me with that bathroom, but this is a different aimless!

Okay, I'm busted! No sooner than the last towel bar was installed, my dear MIL (who just happens to live with us) was right in there with her denture cleaning gear and compression stockings. So everything went into a big basket inside the vanity for the photo shoot. It's not a big space, so I'm sure it's going to look reeeeaal lived-in real soon.
Many thanks for the kudos, that really means a lot to me. A lot of the design was done on the fly, like the tile work. We had to do some real creative thinking when we ran out of the glazed ceramic tiles for the arch! The plaster walls above the wainscot turned out just the way I wanted them to, so I'm real pleased about that.
very nice stuff ...
pic/panaroma made me a bit dizzy ... but that's OK.
I especially like the little fishes ... were they site built or a premade border?
Also like the curved threshold .... never done one .... looks way cool.
I answered my won Q about the curved T materials as I scrolled down ...
also think I saw one of those curved shower curtain rods I've been thinking about getting for here at home .....
Very nice indeed.
Colorful ... but not over done.

< I especially like the little fishes ... were they site built or a premade border? >
Totally site built before installation. I used a product called Tile Tape which is basically a 12" wide roll of clear sticky tape - it really helped to put the border together in modular units. The biggest pain was having to grind down the edges of any glass tiles used in the floor - hooray for the Dremel! Those glass tiles also made mincemeat of the grout sponges, but we couldn't take a chance on any cut up tootsies.

Yeah, I think so too. The way Ray painstakingly constructed that form for the concrete was pure artistry.

Yes, that's what it is. It's only little, but it makes a big difference. Could of had a custom one done for a measly $600. Hah!
very nice work!
Nice bathroom. Very impressive tile work. How long did that shower take to tile?

Err, it's kind of hard to say. A long time, I know. The floor and shower pan were done first. I got all the border pieces together using the Tile Tape, and Ray Lewis (Ironwood Construction) came and tiled the floor in one, maybe two days. Then he did the grouting. Tiling the shower stall was a lot more challenging, those mosaic tiles are not very cooperative. I remember that Ray started the walls right at eye level, where the diamond-shaped decos are - why not start right at the hard part? As a rough estimate, I'd say it took four or five days to do the tile work and another three to do the grouting. We had a couple of days of downtime, while I made frantic calls to California trying to track down a few more squares of the lavender tile (discontinued, naturally) and we ran out of the Bright White grout for the walls. My nearest Home Cheapo is 1.5 hours away - each way!
Aimless,
What brand are the fixtures and hardware? Very nice look with a good blend between new and retro. I likey....that's not a mistake, it's rustic
Most of the fixtures are American Standard's Standard Collection. Home Depot has an exclusive with AS, and you can only order it through them. Be aware that the bolt caps for the toilet are the cheesiest fugly plastic (plus they don't seat properly), boy have I complained about them to AS customer disservice! The little round sink is by Kohler, the vanity cabinet is Kitchen Maid (or is it Kraft?). It really surprises me that you _have_ to buy the shower and tub filler as a set, when are the manufacturers going to realize that not everyone needs a tub? The handshower is Alson's, and all the other bibs and bobs were ordered through clawfootsupply.com or faucet.com. I had to do some creative fibbing to American Standard's customer service in order to get a matching handle for the shower diverter - you'd think that things like handle fittings would all be standardized by now, but no way! BTW, I have an extra tub spout if anyone needs one...
Gad Zooks! Maybe I will just strap a hose on to the wall when I get around to my bathroom. Like you, I find fixtures that are perfect...if only they came with a handlle like another brand. Thanks for the info....that's not a mistake, it's rustic
Very nice.....I love the colors.....Makes for a very nice shower!
aimless... great job on the bathroom... looks really great
on another note..
if you are interested, this is a pretty slick program... there are some sample images on their website..
