IT’S FINALLY FINISHED!
The bathroom, I mean. The one I thought would be a never-ending project from hell. I posted a couple of questions on this forum (thanks to all for the help – Breaktime rules!) and I thought I’d share what the finished product actually looks like. Does anyone know of kitchen and bath renovation contests or call for entries that might exist? American Standard (source of our fixtures) isn’t doing one this year, the bums. In all honesty, I think this bath deserves some kind of recognition! Maybe for all the sweat equity that went into it. Amazing what 13 months and 7 grand can do…
Major props are due to Ray Lewis of Ironwood Construction – but mention the words “Japanese mosaic ceramic tile” and he’ll likely run screaming in the other direction. Can’t blame him for that.
I wish I had a “before” picture to post but I can’t get a still off the video camera at the mo, it’s been an amazing transformation. We took a TINY postage stamp of a powder room (no lie, you had to straddle the vanity to sit on the toilet)and turned it into a roomy feeling 3/4 bath. Had to steal some floor space from the 1st floor bedroom behind it (about 1.5 feet), but the curved shower pan makes a huge difference to the illusion of extra space.
See the pix for the details. I hope these give you a good sense of the room, but I would need a super wide angle or something to capture it in one shot. So I cobbed together these “pans”.
The first pic is The Towel that Started It All, a 20-year old towel I bought at Ikea and was the color inspiration for the tiles and the wall work. Hope these don’t bog down anyone’s server. Enjoy!
