Hello, without going into to much detail, are joist hangers strong enough to handle the partial load of a new 16×20’ 1 story home addition on post and pier foundation? So basically I’ll put post and piers at the 8’ and 16’ mark, and attach 2×12 ledger (with proper fasteners) to existing rim joist and use joist hangers to fasten the joists to main house. The joist will be 2x10s and the beams will be double 2x12s. Or do I need to cut existing rim joist and slide the new joist on top of the sill plate and foundation, and then fasten the new joist to the older joist in the existing house? Rather not do that if possible. Also snow load is under 30

Yes, they will work fine. I've done many decks and additions just that way.
Thanks, glad to get some confirmation. Much appreciated
