Both of my Rol-Air compressors have 5.5hp Honda GX-160 motors on them. Awesome little motor. Change the oil and filters and they just run and run and run. Fire right up too.
But they’re loud. The 13hp Honda on my generator is actually quieter. How is this? Anyone know of an aftermarket muffler for these things to quiet ’em down a bit? FWIW, there’s nothing wrong with the mufflers on them now… they’re not damaged or rotted out or anything… they just come that way. Loud.
Figured it’d at least be worth asking.

Go to an auto parts store and get the smallest car muffler they have. Not glass packs, of course, or anything like that.
Then have a flange welded on, so you can mount it on your compressor.
Do it so that it doesn't just stick straight out, of course. You should be able to figure out some sort of strap, if needed.
On the small engine like that, it should never get very hot at all. And it should be a lot more quiet.
People who camp a lot in RV's who have generators, and yes, even compressors, do this all the time. It works.
Politics: the blind insulting the blind.
add a 90 degree conduit sweep that will fit over the muffler's body....
large dia is good here...
aim the sweep sky ward...
adding a short pipe to the sweep helps to....
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
