I’m wondering what you all think about how much extra time it should take for a plumber to hook up a large jacuzzi tub compared to the exact same tub that is just a bathtub
Thanks.

When deck posts exceed what the prescriptive code tables allow, it's time to consult a structural engineer for post sizing and possible bracing.

If we're truly talking about "the exact same tub", there should be no difference- most of the tubs come with all of the jet plumbing pre-piped and the motor all ready mounted on the tub skid. Are there differences in the controls (deck-mounted controls, separate hand shower, etc)? What's the plumber's explanation for the additional time/cost?

I heard some convoluted explanation about "all the pipes........ so complicated... blah, blah, blah..."

I'd dig a little deeper on that one, since something's getting a little "deep" (and it's not the water). As I said, if it's a simple tub/shower control and the tub unit itself is preplumbed, there should be no difference, so either your plumber is pulling your chain, or he has no clue what he's doing.

Are the faucets mounted on the tub itself, or on the deck or wall? The last jacuzzi I put in was quite easy, because the faucet and filler were deck mounted. If they had been mounted on the unit then it might have taken significantly more trouble to connect the water supplies to them.
The main problem I had with that unit was dripping from the coupling on the jet plumbing. I could barely contort my arm into the position necessary to tighten some of them. I guess that's why the instructions said to test-run it before installation!
Not to jump the thread but what do you like for whirlpool tubs. I've look at some Kohler, Aquatic, and Bain, and know of the Am Standard, etc. I'm not a fan of the air jet tubs, I'm looking for a water jetted whirlpool. Thanks for your thoughts.
I put in what my customers choose. Last one was a lower-end American Standard, which seemed fine. Personally I would choose a tub by sitting in it and making sure I'd actually use it.
That's what I figured. My plumber could not really care less about the tubs (unless they are POS), he doesn't even bother to buy them and mark them up, its just too much of a hassle with some customers.
Thanks anyway.
I installed a Jacuzzi 60 inch water jet in our bath. Looks and works great.
My skills in plumbing are DIY - that being said, I just installed both a regular and a deck-mount jacuzzi tub, and they were about the same.
If it's the same tub just a jetted model it should be no biggie.
Most of the jetted tubs I run across aren't the usual hook up & go though so a little tinkering is in order but we bid them the same.
Bid on weight & size.
Faucet is bid separately.
