I have a similar setup. At my pump I installed a 4 inch square box with a 4 prong 220 outlet (4 wires). The feed to the pump from the breaker goes into that box and is wired to that outlet. The pump is wired to a pigtail with a mating plug for the outlet. When I need to connect the generator I have a extension that plugs into the generator and allows the pump to plug into it. It has worked fine the few times I needed it.
Condoman, thank you. Seems simple enough.
I appreciate your input so much.
One critical point is that the generator must never be connected to the grid- the process of connecting the generator to the pump must disconnect everything from the rest of the power system. Otherwise, utility repair people can be electrocuted by backfeeding from the generator. A transfer switch does this automatically when it's activated. Condoman's set-up also does that.
BobboMax.
Yes, thank you. I am aware of that. The previous suggestion, as you stated, does not risk that. Totally isolated.
Thank you.
I would suggest you to purchase the portable generator charge by normal adapter and even solar panel
Simple setup, thanks for sharing. What generator do you use? and where I can get an cheap one? I'm on budget.
What generator do you use? Want to try your setup and seek something on a budget.
Last year, I encountered a situation where I needed to hook a water well to a generator. Previously, I used an older Briggs & Stratton model, which had been reliable for basic needs. However, when it came to handling the more demanding load of the water well, it simply couldn't cope and eventually gave out.
To hook up your water well to a portable generator, you'll need to ensure the generator's power output matches your well pump's requirements. Use a transfer switch for safety, as it prevents backfeeding electricity into the grid. Also, keep the generator outdoors and away from windows to avoid carbon monoxide issues. It's a good idea to consult with a professional for proper setup, especially if you're not familiar with electrical systems.
