I am looking to side my house with real wood (redwood) siding. Love the idea of horizontal nickle-gap, but I am concerned that water will get sucked into the gap and not drain out causing premature rot/failure. I am in upstate New York and siding will have a rain screen behind, so I am not worried about water intrusion into the house. Am I being paranoid?
Rainscreen makes horizontal siding easier, although vertical siding would drain water better. Prefer the shadowline of nickle-gapped over traditional T&G with V. Siding will be stained on all 4 sides before being installed. Home is a ranch with 2′ overhangs.
Thanks
Mike

Don't know if I'd stain the back side. I had a neighbor that did that, and it didn't do well. Moisture has nowhere to go. Maybe come around an inch or so, for the drip factor.
