I believe that Nubucks will soon be on the endandered list.
Thanks My foam is still good its the plastic around the foam and the hide of nauga that goes badWhat do you think about house wrap for wrapping the foam
Tyvek? Typar? Might not last as long as nauga skin.
Maybe a TPO roofmenbrane, rubber would get ugly and leave crud on everything. Think Mule Hide type product.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Have no first hand experience with spa covers. 4-5 years sounds short, maybe not....
If foam is good and covering is bad ---- how about taking your existing cover to a boat upholstery shop and having it recovered there -- maybe better quality materials available to them?
Or, check with an auto body shop - think car tops - they go better than 5 years for sure.

I have spacap inflatable covers on my hot tubs. They work pretty well...

If you have one of those lifter arm setups it would be a piece of cake to open it.
Mosaic tiles so a little cracking won't show.
Hmmm....
Think ICBM launcher door!

Some great ideas guysI knew if anyone would have ideas it would be hereI am going to throw all the ideas against the wall and see what might stickThe tile idea really has me thinkingDUCT TAPE - I have used so much putting old covers back together I should have bought stockThanks to all and keep them coming
why not pick up a length of that heavy-duty plastic garden pool liner at HD and cover your foam with it.
I do a lot of work at a resort that has 22 hot tubs. Guests being guests the tops last about two years. Either they rip or the foam gets waterlogged. We haven't found any good alternative to the manufacturers tops but two ideas that came closest (but weren't pursued very far due to the laziness of the owner) were to get a local surfboard maker to fiberglass foam in the right shape or use an open cored 2" plastic similar to Trex you would then fill with closed cell foam.
Mine is about 11 yrs old but has been under covered/screned part of the deck. It got waterlogged and I took it apart and put the foam out on the deck in the sun for a long while. One side seemed to dry out but the other did not. Recovered with plastic and taped it then put back in the vinyl cover. The hinge seam was showing some distress and used some brown almost matching tape. Should get another couple of yrs. I hope.
Mine seemed to erode on the underside of the cover.
Since mine does not really need the slope I may get some of the thick foam and get it cobered with some reinforcement (old one has some galvanized channel).
I wonder if some type vinyl top u/v protector stuff would help longevity. Have found some ebay deals on covers but not much cheaper than what you quoted.
