I am about ready to replace my hot water tank, as the old one is leaking and about ready to quit. My question is, should I go with a hot water heater and as advertised, never run out of hot water again, or just replace the hot water tank? I’ve been told this new system will save me up to 70% on my hot water bill. Any thoughts or comments?

Have you ran out of hot water a lot in the past? How big is your present tank? What's the difference between a "tank" and a waterheater? All the waterheaters I've seen are a tank and a burner, maybe you're talking about an on-demand waterheater?

I've ran out of hot water from time to time, depending on who is visiting and what time of year it is. We use more hot water in the summer time than we do the rest of the year. We also have more freinds visiting then as well. The tank that needs to be replaced is a 50 gallon. I refered to hot water tank as the old type that most people have. A hot water heater comes from the internet web site, I suppose it could be a On-Demand water heater. What can you tell me about these On-Demand water heaters?
Not sure what your requirements are...oil, gas, or elec, but a few yrs ago, I upgraded my old boiler(with coil) and added a PhaseThree indirect hot water heater..... http://www.triangletube.com/PDF/TR_Smartliterature.pdf
Use to run out of hot water all the time, now I don't!! I piped hot water out to my garage, and use it for power washing my equipment and vehicles. Even after a full hour or so of power washing, still plenty of hot water for showers, washing machine, etc. Stainless Steel guts too.

I just want to know why you want to waste money heating hot water ?

Are you using your heating system boiler to heat the water and then storing it in a tank? (Such as they doi in New England and other places, I supopose?)
Whichever way you go, you'll need to consider usage, capacity, recovery time and cost.

Tool Donations Sought
I'm matching tool donors to a church mission to Haiti - we're shipping a bus converted to a medical facility in (now it looks like) April and can fill it with clothes, tools and all sorts of stuff needed in that poorest of all countries. A few hand tools or power tools can provide a livelihood for an otherwise destitute family. Please email me if you have tools to donate.
Thanks to Jeff and David and Jim and Rich and Steven and Mark and Jason and Shep and Jen and Mike and Joe and Bill and Ken for their offers!
Several donations have arrived! Thanks and God bless!
