Been asked by the manager of a small office complex to modify an existing interior door. Previous tenant had quite a bit of space, cobbled together by cutting doors in demising walls. Now the manager wants to take it back to the previous smaller suites, but doesn’t want to ‘permanently’ close in the doors, so they want two door panels on one frame like you would find between adjoining rooms in a hotel. I’ll replace the knobs with deadbolts which will take care of the clearance problem. I see two ways to do this: take out the strike-side jamb and install a second hinge-side jamb, or mortise new hinges into the existing jamb. Either way there would be two right hand doors in the opening so the locksets would be on opposite ends. Suggesstions or ideas?
